What was CopterBox? It was a project we started in the mid 1990s that wound up getting killed by US Army bureaucrats. It was a lightweight, disposable air cargo delivery system that could deliver up to 60 pounds of supplies from a wide variety of aircraft with drop speeds of over 140 knots. The high-strength corrugated paper box employed three rotor blades that used the principle of autorotative lift to slow it and its payload to a gradual descent prior to ground contact. One operator could drag it to a covered position, extract the payload and carry on with the mission.
The Rigger Mafia hated it because it did not require riggers. We designed it so that anyone could set them up for airdrops.
